The program, created by the nonprofit Sibling Cities USA, is designed to “bridge regional divides and promote unity in America.”
The mayors of Bloomington and Palo Alto announced resolutions in November for the two cities to be the pilot Sibling Cities pair, both of which were passed by their respective city councils.
During the kickoff, Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton and Palo Alto Mayor Pat Burt will make the agreement official.
“I believe this new relationship can significantly benefit the residents of our respective communities for years to come, with mutual learning and collaborations,” Hamilton said. “We can imagine a focus on priorities such as community engagement, sustainability and economic and business opportunities. Connecting together as communities is more important than ever, as we recover from the pandemic and address big challenges ahead.”
Former Palo Alto Mayor Tom DuBois, who was in office when the resolutions were proposed, will also take part in the event.
