Regular full-time workers who have been employed for a year are eligible for city coverage of up to $2,500 of educational expenses per year.
According to a news release, the city said it hopes to support the continued growth and development of its employees with a college-accredited degree or professional certification, or credential — even if its not directly applicable to their current job description. Of course, Indiana University is in town as well as an Ivy Tech Community College campus.
“We are committed to investing in the growth and development of our employees,” said Mayor John Hamilton in the release. “As part of our commitment to being an employer of choice, we are proud to offer this new pilot program and the many other new offerings in 2023.”
The program was approved as part of the city’s 2023 budget, which also included other extensive new benefits for city employees. Among them are a 5% cost of living adjustment, a $1,000 bonus and $2,500 allowance for employees needing to travel out-of-state to receive an abortion.
