Cowork Btown has been acquired by Dimension Mill Inc., a nonprofit organization that is currently transforming a more than century-old building in Bloomington’s Trades District into its own coworking and business incubator space.
The current Cowork Btown members, which total about 100, will move into the new Dimension Mill space, which is expected to open this fall. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
The nonprofit says the facility, also known as The Mill, will be the centerpiece of the city’s Trades District and Certified Tech Park. In addition to the coworking space, The Mill will also serve as flexible office space for lease and an event venue for networking, professional events, and community use.
"Cowork has been thrilled to provide a physical place for professionals of all types to connect and support each other," said Forrest Fowler, co-founder of Cowork Btown. "We’re incredibly excited to work with The Mill to build on this momentum and continue to expand the community of remote workers and entrepreneurs that are choosing Bloomington. More and more people are seeing that our quality of life – our cultural and artistic amenities and cost of living – make it the perfect place for these new kinds of professions to germinate and thrive."
Dimension Mill says the Cowork Btown members will join with entrepreneurs from a variety of professions, including software engineers and microbrewers. Executive Director Pat East says the facility will be an "important piece of our community’s future."
According to its website, The Mill was originally built in 1907 as part of the Shower Brothers Furniture Factory. It was later used as a storage facility for Indiana University before it was acquired by the city of Bloomington.
