BioPoly LLC announced it has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with U.K.-based medical company, Hospital Innovations Ltd., to distribute BioPoly’s resurfacing products. The Indiana company manufactures several biomaterial products that orthopedic surgeons can use to resurface areas of the knee, patella and shoulder when they become worn down.
Finding a distributor in the U.K. is an important step for the company. BioPoly says its partial resurfacing products are not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration for use in the U.S. But it did receive a “CE” mark from the European Union, which allows the company to sell its products in the EU.
“We at BioPoly are very excited to be partnering with Hospital Innovations in the UK. Their knowledgeable and experienced team will represent BioPoly’s growing product portfolio very well as they expand the market and provide the best service to the UK orthopedic surgeon customers,” said Herb Schwartz, BioPoly president.
The material is a proprietary combination of a synthetic polymer and hyaluronic acid, a lubricating molecule found in joint fluid. BioPoly says the biomaterial functions like synthetic cartilage and can be used to replace damaged human cartilage.
