The not-for-profit health system is investing $115 million in the project, which represents the first phase of the expansion.
The nearly 124,000-square-foot replacement hospital will be located adjacent to the existing Margaret Mary Physician Center and Margaret Mary Outpatient and Cancer Center.
The new hospital will include expanded surgical capabilities, improved patient privacy, easier navigation and improved technology. The health system said the hospital will “position MMH as a leader in rural health care and support efforts to attract and retain top talent.”
The current hospital has been in operation for more than 90 years. CEO Liz Leising said it is important for MMH to be prepared to meet the future needs of the community.
“As the delivery of health care shifts from managing illness to promoting and supporting wellness, the development of an innovative health and wellness campus becomes a critical need,” Leising said in a news release. “Building a new state-of-the-art hospital is the first step in our vision and will serve as the anchor for developing a campus that will help transform our community into a healthier place to live.”
Construction is slated to begin in the spring of 2024 and take about two years to complete.
Cincinnati-based GBBN Architecture is leading the design team for the new hosptial, while Bruns-Gutzwiller in Batesville and Danis in Cincinnati will manage construction.
Margaret Mary Health employs nearly 800 people across its entire footprint, and the new facility will employ about 400. However, the health system said no direct jobs will be created with the project.
“The development of additional jobs or new positions at Margaret Mary Health will align with growth of key strategic service lines,” a spokesperson said in an email to IIB.
MMH said the expansion will involve multiple phases, but specific details on those phases, including costs, have not yet been determind.
