Our partners at the Daily Journal report Bargersville-based Roy Umbarger and Sons is planning to invest $13 million to relocate its feed division to a site near Franklin.
The company says it will construct a new feed manufacturing facility, warehouse and office space on an 80-acre property located about one mile east of Interstate 65. The facilities will only take up about 20-25 acres.
Umbarger and Sons says its feed division continues to grow and needs more space. Co-owner Marty Umbarger tells the publication it was looking to relocate closer to an interstate since the majority of the feed they manufacture is shipped outside of Indiana.
The Johnson County Council is considering a 10-year tax abatement for the project, which Umbarger says will help retain 26 jobs. Council President Rob Henderson says the new facility could spark further development in the area.
The company says its grain division in Bargersville and fertilizer business in Union Township will remain in their current locations. Umbarger says they are still considering options for the future use of the current feed facility once the relocation is complete.
