In a notice to the state, Graphic Packaging International LLC said the closure will affect 70 employees.
The plant manufactures folding cartons for food and consumer products. A spokesperson for Graphic Packaging told Inside INdiana Business the decision to close the facility came after an evaluation of the company’s manufacturing footprint.
“After assessing Graphic Packaging’s overall packaging plant network, the most cost-effective outcome included consolidating Auburn production into our broader network of plants,” the spokesperson said in an email to IIB. “We have operational plans to ensure there is no supply disruption to our customers.”
The company said an exact closure date is still to be determined based on “multiple business plan factors,” but the facility is slated to cease operations on or around Aug. 4.
The layoffs are expected to begin on that date. The affected employees are not represented by a union and do not have bumping rights.
“We are committed to assisting our affected employees during this transition,” the spokesperson said. “They are encouraged to apply for other positions at GPI if they are interested and qualified, and we will provide outplacement services.”
The manufacturing plant is located at 1201 S. Grandstaff Dr. in Auburn.
