Atlas Van Lines furloughs Evansville workers

The moving company said in a statement to Inside INdiana Business the move is part of an effort to restructure its Evansville-based companies.
The company said it could not confirm an exact number of affected employees but said it is a “small furlough” of its Evansville companies.
“Due to the challenging market conditions impacting our industry, we have made the difficult decision to restructure our Evansville-based companies which resulted in a small furlough of our workforce,” Atlas said in the statement. “While this decision was made to ensure our long-term stability, we understand the impact it has on affected employees and sincerely appreciate their contributions to this great company. “
Atlas, a subsidiary of Atlas World Group in Evansville, did not state whether the affected employees would be brought back after a certain period of time.
Atlas World Group is the 20th largest private company in Indiana with $1 billion in revenue reported in 2022, according to IBJ research. The company employs 780 people, including 320 in Indiana.
