The organization says it focuses on supporting a deeper understanding of how the arts play a part in daily life, and providing access to arts programming throughout the state.
The commission says the plan is the result of more than a year of research and public input. The process included more than 1,000 artists, 250 community leaders and more than 1,400 citizens. Executive Director Lewis Ricci says the plan is a "fresh approach to long-range planning and implementation."
The strategy outlines four main goals: facilitating meaningful engagement between arts practitioners and their communities, supporting deeper understanding and integration of arts in communities, providing pathways for learning in the arts and nurturing each citizen’s artistic interests.
In February, the commission released the first statewide research study into the so-called "creative economy’s" impact on the state. The report suggested more than 160,000 Hoosiers are employed in the arts or in arts-related roles.
