Houston-based EDP Renewables North America has begun construction on a 202-megawatt wind farm near the town of Wolcott in White County. The company says Indiana Crossroads II will be operational in 2023.
EDPR has a power purchase agreement with Merrillville-based Northern Indiana Public Service Co. to acquire the electricity that will be generated by the 42 new turbines.
The two companies have previous agreements stemming from three other wind farms in White County.
“Wind and White County go hand-in-hand, and EDP Renewables is proud to be a part of this clean energy movement, with Indiana Crossroads II representing our soon-to-be seventh operational wind farm in the area,” said Tom LoTurco, EDP Renewables North America Executive Vice President, Eastern Region and Canada and Government Affairs.
EDPR says the construction project will create 250 full-time jobs. Once operational, it will support eight positions to operate and perform routine maintenance.
The company says it is the largest operator of wind energy generation in Indiana with a capacity of 1,400 megawatts of electricity.
