Conco, which manufactures ammunition containers for the U.S. military, said Monday it will invest $71.4 million to add 150,000 square feet of space and create 175 jobs.
One Southern Indiana, the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties, said the expansion will accommodate increased manufacturing, finishing and storage needs.
“The Conco team couldn’t be more excited about our continued growth in Southern Indiana,” Conco CEO Karen Paschal said in a news release. “As we increase our production goals, investing in our Scottsburg facility is the ideal solution and will position us to fulfill our duty as a mission-critical defense partner.”
In August 2023, Conco said it would invest nearly $55 million to purchase, upgrade and equip the former Tokusen USA facility in Scottsburg and create up to 175 jobs by the end of 2026.
Conco has been a supplier to the U.S. military for more than 50 years and also serves as a designated “return site” to store, de-militarize, and prepare container models for reuse and resale.
The new jobs coming with the expansion will have an average hourly wage of $30 per hour, the company said. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. is offering Conco up to $1.9 million in conditional tax credits, which the company will not be eligible to claim until Hoosier workers are hired for the new jobs.
The city of Scottsburg is also offering a five-year personal property tax abatement and 10-year real property tax abatement.
“The expansion of Conco into Scottsburg represents a major milestone for our community,” Mayor Terry Amick said in the release. “Their combined $125 million in capital investment and 350 local jobs will have a transformative impact on our local economy. We’re eager as a city to support Conco and to see the positive effects their presence will bring to our growing community.”
1si said the expansion is expected to be complete in 2026.
