Lucabe Coffee Expands to Iconic Columbus Building

Subscribe NowLucabe Coffee Co. is expanding its specialty coffee business with the acquisition of the former Irwin Union Bank and Trust branch bank building in Columbus. The coffee company says its second location will open in July and is expected to create about 20 full- and part-time jobs.
While the downtown location will remain the headquarters for all in-house made baking and food production, the business says the new location will provide service to a much broader section of the community.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding our business at this time,” said Alissa Hodge, co-owner of Lucabe Coffee Co. “For the past 18 months we have been exploring opportunities to expand, and we’re thrilled to open a second location at this very special property. It will allow us to connect the design of our great drinks and customer experience to the internationally renowned design legacy of this Harry Weese-designed building in our hometown. It’s a dream come true.”
Lucabe says it hopes its reuse of the building will allow it to become a community asset.
“It’s been impressive to see this small business grow at this pivotal time,” said Columbus Mayor James Lienhoop. “One of my first jobs was working as a bank teller at this branch, so I think customers will respond well to being able to drive up and order coffee; plus it will have a nice view of the Haw Creek and our People Trail.”
Lucabe, which has operated in downtown Columbus for nearly five years, purchased the building last month from First Financial Bank. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
