Indy Machining Plant Closing, Jobs to be Eliminated

In a WARN notice to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, the company says 137 positions at its Indianapolis site and six in Tennessee will be eliminated and the facilities will close on October 25.
According to the company website, Mitchel and Scott opened in 1933 with just a five-person machining shop. The precision machining plant produces parts for a variety of industries, including agriculture, construction and transportation.
The company did not immediately disclosed the reason behind the closing. Inside INdiana Business has reached out to Mitchel and Scott for a comment but has been unsuccessful.
The letter is required by the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. WARN is a U.S. labor law that mandates employers with 100 or more employees to provide a 60-day warning of a plant closing or mass layoffs.
