Indy-Chicago Crowd Source Bus Service to Continue

A crowd-funded bus which makes a daily round trip from Indianapolis to Chicago has apparently created a following as the company plans to keep it running. The Chicago Tribune reports the transportation company OurBus has decided to make the three hour and 45-minute run permanent.

The New York-based company started the pilot program in July to help fill a gap when Amtrak stopped running the Hoosier State train.

The bus leaves downtown Indy at 7:30a.m.for Chicago, then offers a return trip, leaving Chicago at 5:00 p.m. The newspaper reports the company is considering adding an additional trip on Friday.

The paper says prices are “dynamic” in that they range in price from $10 to $25 depending on demand.

OurBus started in 2016 offering service, but it does not own any buses. Instead, the company contracts with tour bus companies with coaches that are typically used for conferences or traveling sports teams. According to the Chicago Tribune, buses for the in-state route were hired from Indianapolis-based Gold Shield Transportation.

Greyhound and Megabus also offer daily round trip service between the two cities.
