Goodwill to Open $8M Campus in Gary

Subscribe NowGoodwill Industries is increasing its presence in northwest Indiana with the opening of a new 105,000 square foot campus in Gary. The $8 million center includes an outlet store, donation drive-thru, and community center. The nonprofit organization will dedicate the new facility Thursday, according to our partners at The Times of Northwest Indiana.
"The Community Career Center is a free facility for anyone who would like to learn more about how to find a job — those who are employed, under-employed or unemployed," said Debie Coble, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Michiana.
Goodwill says individuals can work on their resumes, cover letters and practice their interviewing skills. The paper says the center will also offer workshops at no charge to help residents find work.
“The Gary campus is an example of Goodwill’s continued commitment to bring services to the region for those seeking employment," Coble said.
Goodwill’s Gary location will also include an Excel Center, a charter school concept, for adults seeking their high school diploma. The paper says there are an estimated 50,000 adults in Lake County without a high school diploma.This will be the third Excel Center location in Goodwill Industries of Michiana’s district, which stretches from the south suburbs of Chicago to Warsaw, into southern Michigan and as far south as Logansport.
The organization is also opening an outlet store at the Gary location, a first for Goodwill in this region. According to the newspaper, the outlet store is different from a traditional Goodwill retail store as it will sell items that did not sell at the those stores, allowing customers to buy goods by the pound.
The new facility is expected to bring 100 new jobs to the region.
