Alumnus Makes $2M Gift To Wabash College

An unrestricted $2 million gift from Steve Bowen and his wife, Joanie, will be used to benefit students at Wabash College. Bowen served as board chair from 2007-2017, making him one of the longest-serving chairs in the school’s 186-year-history.

The Bowens have given to the school for over 50 years, and the college says the donation will allow the administration and board of trustees to invest the funds for the school’s most pressing needs.

“The college should spend the money in a way they think is best. I believe in the leadership of the College, and I believe in the Board of Trustees. I trust the College to spend it wisely," Bowen said. 

Wabash President Gregory Hess previously established the Stephen S. Bowen Professorship in the Liberal Arts in his honor.

“Steve and Joanie have been exceptional ambassadors for and stewards of Wabash College,” said Hess. “Though each connected to Wabash through different paths, they have always been strong and consistent in the importance of the College’s mission to transform lives.”

Bowen also helped to create the William C. Placher Fund, which is an endowment providing funding for faculty salaries.
