USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program awarded the Cass County town nearly $2 million.
The investment will provide financing for the project to upgrade the combined sewer overflow system. The work will assure the system will meet health and environmental standards. Senators Joe Donnelly (D-IN) and Todd Young (R-IN), and Congressman Pete Visclosky (D-1) helped to secure the funding that included $1.425 million in grants and $475,000 in loans. Other funding sources include a $500,000 grant from the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, a $2.11 million loan and grant combination award from USDA Water & Waste Disposal in 2017.
The latest round of grants and loans from the USDA program included over $82 million distributed to communities in 23 states.
