IUSB Donation Prompts Re-Naming

Subscribe NowIU South Bend’s Riverside Hall has housed various health service programs since being built in 1969, and will continue to house even more after being renamed Vera Z. Dwyer Hall. The Dwyer Trust has given nearly $9 million to the school since 2014, including the single largest gift ever to IUSB of $5.85 million.
The trust has also increased scholarships and endowed two Health Sciences department chairs within the last three years. The building currently houses the Health and Wellness Center, which was moved from a smaller location on campus. It currently serves faculty and students, but will soon serve the community through a partnership with HealthLinc, which also operates a dental clinic on campus.
“Vera Dwyer created a charitable trust to improve education and health for Indiana residents,” said IU South Bend Chancellor Terry Allison. “The Dwyer Trust investment in IU South Bend will continue to multiply as students graduate and serve in health sciences professions that serve the region, state and beyond. We are delighted to recognize the Trust’s generosity through the naming of Vera Z. Dwyer Hall.“
Vera Dwyer’s husband, James founded Dwyer Instruments in 1931 and produced furnace and boiler components in Mishawaka before moving in 1955 to Michigan City, where the company still operates.
