DTN Completes Spensa Acquisition

Subscribe NowMinnesota-based DTN, a global analysis company, has closed on its previously-announced acquisition Purdue University precision agriculture tech startup Spensa Technologies Inc. Spensa, located in the Purdue Research Park, gathers high-resolution data and and models the information.
Forbes named Spensa one of the top 25 innovative ag-tech startups of 2017. “Combining Spensa’s current product offerings with DTN’s Agribusiness and Producer platforms and infrastructure will provide a more comprehensive solution to DTN customers,” said DTN co-CEO Sheryl von Blucher. “Spensa’s agronomic capabilities will further complement DTN’s agriculture industry offerings with differentiated actionable agronomic information and insights. Additionally, the acquisition creates opportunities for DTN to expand the company’s offerings to non-core markets like fruit and tree markets in California.”
Spensa Chief Executive Officer Johnny Park says they have admired DTN as a leader in data innovation “We couldn’t have found another company that more closely shares our vision and values and, together, we will be able to feed, protect, and fuel the world in ways we would not have been able to by ourselves.” Park was a Purdue School of Electrical and Computer Engineering before starting Spensa, which began as a research project and spun out onto its own in 2009.
