AgriPark, New Jobs in Fishers Future

During his State of the City address, Mayor Scott Fadness detailed plans for Fishers AgriPark, which will include crop fields, livestock, aquaponics, beehives and educational space. In today’s address, Fadness also said to expect economic development announcements in the coming weeks involving $150 million in capital investment and hundreds of new jobs.
The city believes the Fishers AgriPark will be the largest park in the United States dedicated solely to a working farm. In addition to helping reduce hunger, Mayor Fadess says the project "will provide opportunities for volunteers to get their hands dirty and help grow food that will be donated to local food pantries. The park is expected to open in the late spring.
Aggressively Organic, which is developing "micro-growth chamber" technology to cheaply grow produce tells Inside INdiana Business it will be part of the AgriPark effort as well. The less-than-one-year-old company currently operates out of Launch Fishers and is opening a 40,000-square-foot facility elsewhere in the Hamilton County city.
During the address, Fadness also announced a partnership with Conner Prairie and HSE Schools called Fishers First. The collaboration, which he says is still in the early stages, will focus on experiential learning and innovation. The city says educational programs will range from field trips to learn about the science of patching potholes to learning opportunities at Conner Prairie and local businesses. He says the approach will create a "city-wide classroom" in Fishers.
