Books & Brews Coming to UIndy

Subscribe NowThe University of Indianapolis says it is continuing to spark south side development with an agreement for a new Books & Brews location next to campus. Indianapolis-based developer OakBridge Properties says construction on the craft beer taproom begins this month in the former Shelby Bowl building.
Developers expect the location to open in spring 2018.
The school says the agreement aligns with its long-term commitment to serve as a catalyst for development in the area and expand retail options for students and residents. President Robert Manuel calls the university "an anchor for south Indianapolis," and says Books & Brews "stands out as a logical option to bring additional retailers to our campus and surrounding neighborhoods."
UIndy says the move plays into its Vision 2030 Plan, which outlines plans for university and community growth, including more than $50 million in capital investment for the campus and community. Last year, UIndy dedicated the $25 million Greyhound Village, a 500-bed student housing development.
In March, the university announced a $5 million gift to launch the R.B. Annis School of Engineering. At the time, Manuel told Inside INdiana Business the school would provide a curriculum combining a liberal arts base and training to build skills that will stay relevant over the next 20-30 years.
