The U.S. Department of Labor’s YouthBuild program aims to help at-risk youth complete degree programs and earn certifications for in-demand occupations.
The authority is the only Indiana agency to receive a grant in the national $80 million round of funding. Overall, 77 YouthBuild programs received between $650,000 and $1.1 million.
U.S. Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta says the program will help at-risk individuals ages 16-24 find "pathways to successful careers outside of traditional education models." He partnering with local community colleges and nonprofits will help match them up with hundreds of thousands of openings in industries including construction and advanced manufacturing.
YouthBuild’s network includes 260 urban and rural programs in 46 states.
