Senators Joe Donnelly and Todd Young say the Government Publishing Office has officially changed the designation of Indiana natives to "Hoosiers" in its federal government style guide. Donnelly says the change from the term "Indianan" is "welcome and long overdue."

Donnelly, former Senator Dan Coats and then-Representative Young sent letters to Government Publishing Office Style Board Chairman Michael Abramsom last year requesting the change. The office is responsible for producing, publishing, distributing and preserving products for all three branches of federal government.

"We aren’t achieving world peace here," says Young, "but it’s nice to be recognized by the federal government as Hoosiers." In a joint release with Donnelly, Young says, "It’s not just a classic movie. It’s not just the nickname for IU athletics. It’s who we are."
