The organization says the funding will provide assistance to more than 1,100 workers over the next four years.
The grant, part of $111 million in funding through the department’s America’s Promise program, is the only one awarded in Indiana. The program aims to support tuition-free programs for industry-specific skills. To be eligible for the grant, boards had to develop partnerships including industry leaders, education institutions, elected officials and economic development organizations.
The Region 4 Workforce Board is headquartered in Lafayette and serves Benton, Carroll, Cass, Clinton, Fountain, Howard, Miami, Montgomery, Tippecanoe, Tipton, Warren and White counties.
