IU East Dedicates New Event Center

The ceremony comes one day after IU East announced a $700,000 gift from longtime contributors Paul and Pat Lingle, after whom the university has named the court where basketball and volleyball games will be played.
In addition to basketball and volleyball, the Student Events and Activities Center will also host concerts, pep rallies and various community events. The university says the Lingles name will appear on the court and on a plaque in the building. IU East Chancellor Kathy Cruz-Uribe says the Lingles’ gift is just one example of the generosity they’ve shown to the university.
"They believe in the importance of providing higher education to those working and living in Wayne County and the region and we applaud the many ways they support IU East and the students we serve," said Cruz-Uribe. "The Lingles’ legacy will continue to be felt on the IU East campus for years to come."
IU East was established in 1971 and Paul Lingle joined the university’s board of advisors in 1976. Since that time, he and his wife have many numerous contributions to the university, including establishing the Lingle Scholars program, which gives four-year scholarships to two incoming freshmen in the IU East Honors Program each year.
A campaign was launched in 2012 to raise $4.7 million for the facility and ground was broken in November 2014. Paul Lingle says he believes the facility will help stimulate more growth for the university.
The first IU East volleyball matches are set to take place in the new facility next month.
