Workers displaced by the upcoming closure of United Technologies Electronic Controls Inc. in Huntington are eligible to receive federal assistance. The Trade Adjustments Assistance Program involves services including training, job search help and, in some cases, funds to help cover some health insurance costs.

Workers over the age of 50 may also be in-line for a wage subsidy to cover half the difference between new and old salaries.

Eligible employees must have worked for UTEC between April 19, 2015 and June 20, 2018.

The program is run by the U.S. Department of Labor and was created to help employees out of work because of foreign imports or out-of-country production shifts.

Connecticut-based UTEC parent United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) announced earlier this year it will move manufacturing operations in Huntington and its Carrier Corp. facility in Indianapolis to Mexico, eventually leaving around 2,100 people out of work.
