Upland’s Pump House Project Coming Along

Subscribe NowBloomington-based Upland Brewing Co. expects to open its new brewpub in June or July at a historic Bartholomew County location. The company says it plans to add 60 service and culinary staff members at the Columbus Pump House, which overlooks the river in the city’s downtown.
Upland has hired Jake Fehrenbach to be general manager and is looking for a front-of-house manager, assistant manager and executive chef. Fehrenbach previously served as executive chef of The Rail in Bloomington and Colorado-based Eddyline Brewing. He says "the history, architecture and setting of the Pump House are incredible and unique, so we owe it to the building to do something special. Upland’s work-hard, play-hard culture and commitment to craft beer will be the same, but our Pump House team will put its own twist on the equation. We value experience but we are also interested to talk to people who have a passion for craft beer and food but who have not worked in the industry before." The brewery is also seeking local farmers to help supply the location.
Upland is one of the state’s largest brewers and has been growing in recent years, including an ongoing $4 million expansion at its flagship campus to boost production of sour beers. It says the total investment in the Columbus location is not being disclosed.
