Suresh Immanuel will assume the role of Schroeder Family Dean of the College of Business and Engineering on June 1, the university said. His responsibilities will include overseeing the college of business and engineering and the Center for the Advancement of Learning, formerly known as the Center for Adult Education.
“Dr. Immanuel’s dedication to academic excellence, collaboration, and fostering a diverse and inclusive environment embodies the values of the College of Business and Engineering and the Center for the Advancement of Learning,” Mary Kessler, interim executive vice president for academic affairs/provost, said in a news release. “His leadership will ensure continued growth and innovation within our academic programs and will prepare our students for success in a dynamic and changing global landscape.”
In addition to his current role as associate dean of the school of engineering and computer science, Immanuel also is associate provost for academic partnerships and a professor of civil engineering. Since joining UE in 2009 he has served in a number of other roles, including program director of civil engineering and department chair of mechanical and civil engineering.
Notable achievements, the university said, include doubling enrollment in the engineering programs and spearheading interdisciplinary initiatives, such as the construction management program.
He holds a doctorate of philosophy in civil engineering and master’s degrees in leadership and engineering.
He succeeds Beverly Brockman, who died in the fall of 2023.
Although the college of business and engineering also includes the Schroeder Family School of Business Administration, Associate Dean Ben Johnson will serve as head of the business school and oversee its day-to-day operations, the university said. His appointment also is effective June 1.
