The funding comes from Indiana Landmarks’ Local Leadership Challenge Grant program.
As part of the grant agreement, the Indiana Barn Foundation will be required to raise an additional $80,000 in matching funds by 2026.
“Indiana Landmarks’ selection committee was impressed by Indiana Barn Foundation’s statewide efforts to engage rural residents and the hands-on participation of its board members,” Indiana Landmarks President Marsh Davis said in a news release. “The group presented a clear plan for a new full-time director who can lead the organization in expanding its important mission.”
Staff from Indiana Landmarks will work with the foundation’s board to promote the executive director position, hire a qualified candidate, and begin implementing first-year goals, the organization said.

The Indiana Barn Foundation is a volunteer not-for-profit founded in 2013 to support the preservation of historic barns throughout Indiana and provide educational programs on barn heritage. The foundation also conducts assessments of barns around the state.
The foundation is the fourth recipient of the Local Leadership Challenge Grant recipient since the program was established in the late 1990s. Indiana Landmarks said it will award a total of $300,000 to three affiliate preservation organizations between 2024 and 2030 to help them hire full-time directors.
