The restaurant said Thursday it will open at the Union Street Market inside the Electric Works mixed-use innovation district.
An overnight fire badly damaged the Powers restaurant at 1402 S. Harrison Street, causing the location to close while repairs are made.
In a post on Facebook, Managing Partner Alex Richardson said Union Street Market stood out as the “clear and natural choice” to set up shop temporarily.
“Electric Works’ commitment to community, coupled with a shared passion for preserving Fort Wayne’s culinary heritage, makes this partnership with Union Street Market not just a practical solution but a heartfelt collaboration,” Richardson said. “We are grateful for this opportunity to continue serving our loyal customers in a familiar and welcoming environment while we rebuild our original home on South Harrison Street.”
Union Street Market opened in November 2022 at Electric Works and has more than a dozen food and beverage vendors.
“Powers Hamburgers will be a perfect addition to Union Street Market, and we are excited for them to join our fantastic list of merchants,” Union Street Market Director Ermin Husidic. “Providing a temporary home for this long-standing Fort Wayne favorite after the fire at their original location allows us to support and celebrate a cherished local business during this challenging time.”
Powers Hamburgers aims to open the temporary location at Union Street Market’s West Hall within a few days, pending necessary approvals.
The fire came just two months after Powers Hamburgers was sold to Salvatori’s Hospitality Group. Richardson told our partners at WPTA-TV on Tuesday that they have plans for a second restaurant in Fort Wayne, though a specific location hasn’t been nailed down.
