The university said it it has exceeded the campaign’s initial $100 million goal, though fundraising efforts will continue through the end of the 2024-25 academic year.
ISU launched the public phase of the campaign, which is the largest fundraising effort in the university’s history, in September 2022. At that point, 62% of the fundraising had been completed in the “quiet” phase.
“Surpassing the $100 million mark of the Be So Bold campaign is a testament to our wonderful donors’ commitment and belief in the future of Indiana State University,” ISU President Deborah Curtis said in a news release. “However, this is just the beginning. The Be So Bold campaign has launched ISU’s culture of philanthropy, and I am confident more success is on the horizon.”
The campaign focuses on four key initiatives: student scholarships, experiential learning, faculty excellence, and athletics.
The university said the campaign was kicked off with the first $1 million gift from alumnus Don Dudine. A second $1 million gift from Dudine pushed ISU over the $100 million mark.
“Don Dudine’s deep ties to Indiana State have helped us alter the trajectory of philanthropy on our campus through the Student Philanthropy Organization and inspiring a wave of generosity from other alumni and friends of ISU,” said ISU Foundation CEO Andrea Angel. “Donor dedication to Indiana State University’s mission set the stage for an extraordinary journey that has now surpassed our $100 million fundraising milestone.”
Since the public launch, ISU has received 18 gifts of $1 million or more, including $1.15 million from ISU Foundation board chair and alumnus Rich Porter and his wife, Robin. The university also received $1 million from former Vice President of Administrative Affairs Robert Schafer and his wife, Penny.
To date, the campaign has seen nearly 16,000 donors worldwide, including 7,000 new donors, the university said. The funding has supported 124 new endowed funds.
ISU says the Be So Bold campaign will continue through June 30, 2025.
