The Office performing arts + film is expanding its Artists At Work campaign through a partnership with the Herbert Simon Family Foundation and the Central Indiana Community Foundation. The program will employ five Indy residents for a year on a $32,500 salary and benefits to work with local social impact organizations on cross-sector issues.
“A core tenet of our mission at Artists At Work is investing in artists and valuing arts and culture as a vehicle for fostering community, social cohesion, and civic participation,” Nadine Goellner, AAW Managing Director, said in a news release. “Through these artistic civic engagement projects created in partnership with local artists and community organizations, we aim to shine a light on the power of art and artists to help communities flourish.”
The national program was initially launched in 2020 in Massachusetts to enrich communities through artist engagement. Through the initiative, the organization said artists will be paired with an organization to match their skills and benefit from their creative ideas.
Artists also will receive professional development opportunities and mentorship throughout the program.
Applications open Sept. 6 and close Oct. 13. Those selected will be notified in February 2024 with the kick-off in March.
AAW said the program has worked with 60 artists in 10 states resulting in workshops, exhibits and documentaries.
