The college plans to replace the majority of its current structure with a new two-story building and renovate an existing building to house its nursing program.
The funding would come from Ivy Tech’s allocation in the next two-year state budget, which is currently being crafted at the Statehouse.
A spokesperson for Ivy Tech told IIB the new building would house several academic programs, as well as a student services hub that would combine offices such as financial aid, admissions, academic advising and student support services.
The renovation of the existing building would allow Ivy Tech to bring its nursing classrooms and labs to the main campus near its health sciences programs. The nursing program is currently located in a building on Ivy Tech’s south campus in Terre Haute.
“This would allow more cross-collaboration and more closely mirror a hospital environment,” the spokesperson said.
“Our faculty do a fantastic job of educating our students and they have the abilities when they leave here to perform extremely well in the workplace,” Ivy Tech Terre Haute Chancellor Lee Anne Crooks told our partners at WTWO-TV. “But we feel like we owe it to our students to provide them the lab space that they will also see out in the work environment.”
Both the new building and renovated building would also feature additional gathering and study spaces for students.
Crooks said the college hopes to know by the end of April if the funding will be included in the state budget.
