IU says the committee will develop recommendations to clarify the biennial process of setting fees and tuition for undergraduates, ensuring transparency and finding avenues for cost savings for students.
Indiana state law calls for public institutions to set undergraduate tuition and mandatory fees for a two-year period following legislative approval of a biennial state budget in odd-numbered years. Whitten says she has heard feedback from parents and students about the process being difficult. Whitten says tuition and fees for the current and next academic years were set in June 2021 and will likely be reconsidered for the next two academic years in June 2023.
Whitten says she has asked Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration Dwayne Pinkney to form and chair the task force with co-chair Executive Vice Presient and IU Bloomington Provost Rahul Shrivastav, Interim Executive Vice President and IUPUI Chancellor Andy Klein and incoming Vice President for Regional Campuses and Online Education Sue Sciame-Giesecke.
The task force will develop a student-focused process to help advise the president and board of trustees on setting tuition and fee changes to adopt in June 2023.
