The $12 million filtration and water pressure improvements in Mount Vernon have been years in the making. Water Works Department Superintendent Chuck Gray tells our partners at WTVW-TV in Evansville the system has been “a statewide joke for decades.” Improvements include a new electrical building, intake structures, automated water meters, filtration units and deeper well system.
Gray says the city and department have struggled with quality issues and “politics” in the past, which led to boil water advisories during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, unreliable pressure and leaky facilities.
A news conference is set for 11 a.m. today to announce the finished initiative.
