The project shows the entire track layout just moments before the green flag dropped for the 2018 race.
IMS President Doug Boles says the display "makes race day accessible to people around the globe 365 days a year." As part of the effort, an IMS vehicle carrying a Street View Camera took a lap minutes before the race began.
"At Google it’s always been our goal to help people go where they’ve never gone before, so we sent a Street View Camera around the track just moments before the green flag was waved and the racers put the pedal to the metal," said Indianapolis native and Google project coordinator Mike Abrams. "Now, everyone can get a bit closer to the action."
