Fort Wayne economic development leaders say a $180 million redevelopment plan for the old OmniSource property could help inspire students to pursue jobs in science, technology, engineering, arts and math. The proposed STEAM Park is part of a 10-year economic development plan for Fort Wayne and Allen County.

The park, which would include aquariums, an outdoor entertainment venue, an IMAX theater and residential space would be completed between 2021 and 2025. The concept was first outlined by Greater Fort Wayne Inc. Chief Executive Officer Eric Doden, who detailed the plan to regional stakeholders last week, says the strategy could eventually spark $3.5 billion in private investment.

The plan also highlighted key projects including an $85 million downtown arena, the $30 million redevelopment of The Landing on Columbia Street, the $100 million Riverfront Promenade and a potential $250 million redevelopment of the GE campus.
