Report Examines Most, Least Equitable School Districts

Indiana has the 4th most equitable school districts in the U.S., according to a report from Washington D.C.-based WalletHub. The report scored 289 districts in the state based on average household income and expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools per pupil.

WalletHub says discrepancies between the rich and poor have been “exacerbated even more this year by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The top three most equitable school districts include South Harrison Community Schools, South Newton School Corp., and Goshen Community Schools, respectively.

Inversely, the three least equitable school districts in the state include Dekalb County Eastern Community School District, Zionsville Community Schools, and Carmel Clay Schools, respectively.

In order to rank the states with the most and least equitable school districts, WalletHub says it first scored nearly 13,000 school districts throughout the U.S. based on average household income and expenditures for public elementary and secondary schools per pupil.
