The university and CityWorks DC are partnering to support career preparation for high school students in the Washington D.C. area through a program called CareerWise.
The program offers a three-year applied-learning environment for students and a talent-acquisition strategy for businesses. Purdue Global says CareerWise DC students will split their time between traditional high school classes and the workplace, allowing them to earn a wage while also gaining hands-on work experience as an apprentice.
Purdue Global says it will provide resources and support to assist students and educating them on industry trends and job opportunities.
“We are pleased to partner with CityWorks DC on a program that aligns with our mission while expanding to a new demographic,” Purdue Global Chancellor Frank Dooley said.
“Leveraging existing courses, we will deliver credentials that will strengthen the academic portfolio of high school students that mirror their hands-on work experience. We hope to build on the success of this partnership in other areas across the country.”
The initial portfolio will include micro credentials, course bundles, certificates and degrees in the areas of business operations, financial services and information technology.
“This partnership enables participants to earn debt-free college credits in their career pathway and provides the academic support vital to student success,” said Lateefah Durant, CityWorks DC Vice President of Innovation.
CityWorks DC anticipates that the typical apprentice would complete between three and six Purdue Global courses across the full apprenticeship.
