The city says the work on State Road 32 is essential to ongoing downtown development efforts.
Westfield Mayor Andy Cook says, right now, State Road 32 "simply cannot safely and efficiently handle the traffic of a growing community." The project aims to address capacity and congestion issues along SR 32 from Shamrock Boulevard to East Street and improve traffic flow through downtown Westfield.
The city and INDOT have selected Indianapolis-based American Structurepoint to oversee engineering and design. Construction is expected to begin in late 2022 and wrap up in early 2024.
The council voted 7-0 to approve the interlocal agreement paving the way for the collaboration, which involves a 50-50 cost split.
