Indiana University Health has named Dan Handel chief medical officer for the system’s south central region. Handel most recently served as executive medical director and CMO at the Medical University of South Carolina.

An Indiana native, Handel also previously held positions with Oregon Health and Science University, including vice chair of clinical affairs for the Department of Emergency Medicine. His previous academic research has focused on access to care, health policy and emergency department overcrowding.

IU Health says, in addition to his administration duties as CMO, Handel plans to work in the emergency department at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
