The association says the facility, which will include both dirt and paved racing tracks, is scheduled to open this fall.
Our partners at WTHI-TV report the association is moving from its former location near the Hydrite Chemical Facility and is currently building a temporary track at the Wabash Valley County Fairgrounds.
THQMA Treasurer Stan Hawthorne says the new facility has been years in the making and believes it will be a positive addition to the area. WTHI reports the new location had to be rezoned to allow for the track, which some nearby residents opposed.
"We’re racing five horsepower lawnmower motors,” Hawthorne told WTHI. "So, I don’t think, we’re pretty confident we’re not going to be offensive to the neighbors and of course we’ll do everything we can to make sure that we’re good neighbors."
The new track will be located at the corner of Davis Drive and Houseman Street.
