CNBC Rankings Mixed Bag For Indiana
The state says it committed funding to 74 high-potential companies in 2016.

The state ranks 16th overall in CNBC’s "America’s Top States For Business: 2016," down three spots from last year. However, Indiana is ranked first in the nation in cost of doing business and infrastructure. The state lagged in areas including quality of life and work force.
Utah topped this year’s list, after being ranked third in 2015. Texas, Colorado, Minnesota and North Carolina round out the top five. Rhode Island came in at the bottom of the list.
Last month, the Indiana Economic Development Corp. touted the state’s business climate, citing more than 38,000 new jobs over the last year, and nearly 150,000 new jobs since the beginning of 2013. The organization says the labor force is growing as well, with more than 111,000 new eligible employees joining in the last year.
Indiana, particularly in the central part of the state, has seen significant growth in its tech sector. The IEDC says central Indiana is adding high-tech jobs three times faster than the national rate. Tech companies including Salesforce, Sigstr and Lumavate have announced plans over the last few months to create more than 1,200 new tech jobs in the state.
