In 2006, co-founder and then-Chief Marketing Officer Chris Baggott left to launch Compendium Software, a content marketing provider that was bought in 2013 by Oracle.
ExactTarget went public in 2012 with an IPO of $161.5 million. In June 2013, Salesforce announced it would buy ExactTarget for $2.5 billion. The acquisition was finalized one month later and the company became known as Salesforce Marketing Cloud.
Nearly one year later, ExactTarget co-founder Scott Dorsey stepped down as chief executive officer. Chief Operating Officer Scott McCorkle took his place and remains in the role today. McCormick was the final co-founder to leave the company, which he did in September 2014.
In March 2015, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff announced the company was canceling all programs that would require its customers or employees to travel to Indiana. The move was a response to the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, which had been passed by the Indiana General Assembly. Benioff lifted the travel restriction after the state had made changes to the RFRA.
