Thomas Minar says his priorities include a more diverse student population and a state-of-the-art science facility. He says 40 percent of Franklin students are looking to build careers in the life sciences. During an interview on Inside INdiana Business Television, Minar explains why a new science facility is critical.
“We need to have a state-of-the-art facility that will support the kind of intimate teaching experience that our students deserve,” Minar said.
He says another priority is diversity in the student population.
“Racial and ethnic diversity of course are key to who we are as a people, and it’s important in order to serve the country and our society better that we have a more diverse student body reflecting the state of Indiana and the country that we’re in. So, we’re very determined to build on that and to provide that excellent education to people who come from different kinds of background including diverse, economic and social backgrounds as well,” Minar said.
Meanwhile, the new president says the school is committed to the Indiana economy. He says 80 percent of recent graduates are landing jobs and staying in the state.
Minar, a Chicago native, is the school’s 16th president. Before coming to Franklin, Minar served as vice president of development and alumni relations at American University in Washington D.C.
