While at Ivy Tech, dually admitted students will gain access to IU Indianapolis advising, student support and financial aid counseling, according to an IU news release. The schools will share transcripts. Special events will help Ivy Tech students build familiarity with additional IU resources and the IU Indianapolis campus.
Students pursuing an associate’s degree at Ivy Tech in Indianapolis will be able to view their entire pathway to earning their bachelor’s degree at IU Indianapolis, the schools said, providing certainty on how credits will transfer and avoiding unnecessary or duplicative classes.
“Our goal is to reduce as many barriers as possible for students, especially those who transfer from other institutions, and this program creates a clear path for students to truly see themselves here, with the advising and support from both institutions,” Matt Rust, associate vice president for student navigation and support, said in the release.
The new dual admission program expands upon the existing Passport Program between the two schools. The initiative also eliminates the need for new students to apply for IU Indianapolis. Instead, they fill out an interest form when filling out their Ivy Tech admissions application.
“By working hand in hand with IU Indianapolis, we are providing our students with a seamless transition, an array of resources, and the promise of a brighter academic and professional future,” Claire Maxson, vice chancellor for academic affairs at Ivy Tech Indianapolis, said. “This initiative embodies our dedication to empowering students and making higher education more accessible.”
The program is set to welcome its first participants in fall 2024.
