John Zody was most recently the director of housing and neighborhood development for the city of Bloomington. He began his new role at CDFI on Jan. 16.
“I’m excited to join the work of CDFI Friendly Bloomington to continue to advance this unique organization’s mission to lift up community development projects in our part of the state,” Zody said in a news release. “I look forward to working with our partners to expand our capacity and do great work together.”
CDFI Friendly Bloomington is a public-private partnership that helps organizations in southwest central Indiana obtain financing from community development financial institutions, lenders that provide low-interest loans to underserved communities.
Since its 2019 inception, CDFI Friendly Bloomington has attracted nearly $26 million in capital investment from nine partnering CDFIs, with a total of $58 million in investment for affiliated regional projects, the news release said. Projects have included 357 units of affordable housing, a pandemic-relief loan fund, small business assistance and access to funding to install green infrastructure.
Zody served in his role at the city of Bloomington from 2021 to 2023 and has more than 25 years of public service at the federal, state, and local levels, as well as work in higher education. He replaced Jane Kupersmith, who returned to Bloomington city government to lead its Department of Economic & Sustainable Development.
