Improve 64 aims to reduce congestion and improve safety by adding travel lanes, reconfiguring certain interchanges, and replacing or rehabbing bridges and pavement.
The project will add lanes on I-64 between U.S. 150 and Main Street in New Albany, as well as additional work on I-265 between I-64 and Green Valley Road. More improvements are planned for U.S. 150 between I-64 and Old Vincennes Road.
Additional parts of the project include drainage improvements, guardrail installation, updated signage, additional lighting and updated pavement markings.
An estimated cost for the project has not yet been released, but INDOT said that will be developed during the project design phase. The effort will be funded through a combination of state and federal transportation funding programs, according to the department.
Environmental analysis work is still being conducted and expected to wrap up in the spring.
The public hearing is scheduled for Jan. 11 at the New Albany Floyd County Schools Educational Support Center, located at 2801 Grant Line Road in New Albany. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. and a public comment session to follow.
Those who cannot attend can still provide comments via email or by mail, details for which can be found here.
The presentation will be made available on the Improve 64 website following the hearing.
