Purdue Northwest names dean of business school

Purdue University Northwest has named Rachel Clapp-Smith dean of the College of Business. Clapp-Smith, a professor of leadership and academic director of PNW’s Leadership Institute, has been serving as interim dean of the College of Business since February.
The university says Clapp-Smith was selected for the role following a national search and will begin her new role Jan. 3.
“Dr. Clapp-Smith is a recognized authority in leadership development who has been instrumental in building community among her fellow faculty members, integrating a cohesive recruiting and retention plan, and facilitating promising increases in enrollment in the freshman class,” said PNW Provost Kenneth Holford. “Her enthusiasm and leadership will bring great advances to our students, faculty and staff as our College of Business completes its upcoming reaccreditation process with AACSB and continues to grow.”
As interim dean, Clapp-Smith oversaw academic programs, as well as faculty and operations in managerial studies, quantitative business studies, and the White Lodging School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, among others.
“I could not be more excited about the meaningful work my College of Business colleagues and I have ahead of us,” Clapp-Smith said. “We believe in ‘Business for Good’ – the positive effects our programs have in preparing our students to make a difference in their businesses and communities.”
Previously, Clapp-Smith served as associate vice chancellor of academic affairs for PNW. Earlier this year, she was also named a winner of PNW’s Outstanding Administrative Leader award.
In 2019, PNW appointed Dr. Lawrence Hamer as dean of the College of Business.
