The Indiana Graduates Prepared to Succeed Dashboard, or Indiana GPS, tracks and displays data based on five characteristics, which the department says best indicate a student’s preparation for success after high school.
The characteristics include academic mastery; career and postsecondary readiness: credentials and experiences; communication and collaboration; work ethic; and civic, financial and digital literacy.
Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner says the dashboard displays knowledge and skill development data across all grade levels, which can be used to make connections and draw conclusions about a student’s K-12 journey and their post-graduation outcomes.
“Through the launch of the Indiana Graduates Prepared to Succeed dashboard, Indiana is re-envisioning how we strategically display school and student performance,” said Jenner. “This dashboard considers a number of indicators of student success. By showcasing this information in one easily accessible location, our educators, families and communities will be empowered to make informed decisions that help drive continuous improvement for students across the K-12 continuum.”
The department says the dashboard’s landing page “tells the story of a student’s journey from Pre-K through high school and beyond,” Users can also view statewide-, corporation- and school-level summaries.
“By coming together with educators, families, community leaders and employers, we have built a dashboard that transparently displays where our schools have been and, most importantly, where we are going,” said Jenner. “As we continue to work together on future iterations of the dashboard, Indiana GPS will continue to be updated so that it best reflects our progress for Indiana’s students.”
In 2021, House Enrolled Act 1514 was passed, directing the IDOE to develop a school performance dashboard to promotes transparency.
Over the last year, the IDOE worked with stakeholders throughout the state to develop Indiana GPS characteristics and the overall dashboard. The IDOE says the dashboard will continue to be improved upon, and new data and features will be added with feedback from educators and other users.
